What is Forestry Mulching?

We use mulching equipment to clear trees, brush, and dense vegetation by grinding it in place. The mulch layer that’s left behind holds moisture, reduces erosion, and breaks down over time into the soil. This is particularly effective for overgrown parcels, fence-line clearing, trail development, and large acreage where hauling debris isn’t practical.

What We Do

Culvert installation involves excavating the area, sizing the culvert correctly for the drainage volume it needs to handle, setting it at the proper grade, and backfilling and compacting around it. Done right, a culvert handles water quietly in the background and extends the life of the driveway or road above it significantly.
We work on both new installations and replacements of failing or undersized culverts. If your current setup isn’t draining properly or is showing signs of structural failure, give us a call.

Other Services You Might Need

Forestry mulching works well as part of a broader land management project. For larger parcels, it often goes hand in hand with land clearing — handling the vegetation efficiently while other clearing methods address what the mulcher can’t. Trail and access road clearing is a common companion service, especially on rural properties where paths need to be cut through wooded areas at the same time. Once the vegetation is cleared and mulched, site prep and grading can follow to shape the ground for its intended use. Hydro-seeding helps stabilize any bare ground that’s left once the mulch layer has been worked in.

When is Forestry Mulching the Right Choice?

It works well for medium to large parcels with heavy brush or small to medium trees. It’s also a good option when you want to minimize soil disturbance or don’t want to deal with burning or hauling debris. For very large trees or parcels where the ground needs to be completely bare afterward, traditional clearing may be more appropriate — we’ll tell you which approach makes more sense for your job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does forestry mulching completely clear the land?

It removes the above-ground vegetation effectively and grinds it into mulch. Stumps are typically ground down to near ground level as well. The end result is cleared land with a mulch layer on the surface. If you need the ground completely bare, traditional clearing with material removal may be necessary depending on the scope.

Not typically. The mulch layer breaks down over time and improves soil quality. It also reduces erosion on freshly cleared land, which is a benefit. We’ll discuss the end result you’re looking for and set expectations accordingly.

It depends on the equipment. Smaller trees and dense brush are well-suited to forestry mulching. Very large-diameter trees may need to be handled differently. We’ll assess your parcel and let you know what the mulcher can handle.

In most cases yes — it’s faster, more controlled, doesn’t require permits or ideal weather conditions, and the residual mulch has value for the soil. Burning is also increasingly restricted in many Michigan counties.

Yes. Selective mulching along fence lines and field edges is one of the common applications. We’re careful around structures and will discuss the specifics of your layout.

It depends on the acreage and density of vegetation. Many parcels can be cleared in a day or two. We’ll give you a realistic estimate after seeing the property.
